Self-Hosted Apps Built with .NET

8 self-hostable apps built with .NET you can run on your own server — compared on specs, deployment difficulty, and the SaaS each one replaces.

Backup

Duplicati

A backup client with a web UI that stores encrypted, incremental, compressed backups on cloud storage and remote servers: S3, Backblaze B2, OneDrive, Google Drive, WebDAV, SFTP, FTP and more. The open-source core is MIT-licensed C# on .NET (a few connectors under a proprietary/ directory need a paid subscription); it runs as a single container with its own SQLite databases in /data and backs up whatever host paths you mount into it.

Media server

Emby

Personal media server for movies, TV, music and live TV with apps on nearly every device — the project Jellyfin forked from before it went closed source. Browsing, streaming in the browser and on Roku, Apple TV and LG/Samsung TVs are free; hardware transcoding, downloads, DVR and full playback in the desktop, console and (without a one-off app unlock) mobile apps need a paid Emby Premiere key.
